What to Wear to an Indian Wedding, Function by Function

Mehendi, haldi, sangeet and the ceremony each ask for something different — and none of them ask for red.
One outfit rarely covers a whole wedding, and each function has its own rules.
Mehendi
Light colours, sleeves you can push up, nothing that drags in the henna. A printed sharara set works.
Haldi
Yellow, cotton, and something you do not mind staining.
Sangeet
The one night to wear the sequins. Choose something you can dance in — a lehenga with a lighter skirt, or an indo-western drape.
The ceremony
Silk. A Banarasi or Kanjivaram saree, or a heavy suit set. Avoid red and white, which belong to the bride and to mourning respectively.
